ORIGIN

Our natural Emma Green organic orange oil comes from the sunny regions of the Greek Mediterranean coast. Here, in traditional organic growing areas, the orange trees (Citrus x sinensis) thrive under optimal climatic conditions. The Mediterranean climate and rich soils ensure that the oranges can fully develop their valuable ingredients.

FARM

We source our orange oil from small, family-run businesses in Greece. These farms focus on sustainable and organic farming and work according to the strictest organic standards. The orange trees are cultivated traditionally and the oranges are harvested by hand. The oil is produced directly after the harvest by gently cold-pressing the orange peels.

PLANT

The orange tree (Citrus x sinensis) belongs to the rue family (Rutaceae) and grows as an evergreen tree with shiny, dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers. The ripe fruits are rich in essential oils, especially in the peels, which are known for their fruity, fresh and citrus aromas. The oil contains valuable components such as limonene, which is valued for its invigorating and refreshing properties.

SCENT

Emma Green Organic Orange Oil exudes a fruity, fresh orange scent with citrus-sweet notes that has an invigorating and refreshing effect. Perfect for a cheerful and invigorating atmosphere.

The taste of summer: orange oil for flavouring non-alcoholic drinks and delicious cocktails

Orange oil is a natural treasure that not only delights with its fresh scent, but also with its versatile uses in the kitchen and for refining drinks. Have you ever wondered how the essential oil is extracted or how you can make it yourself? Let's delve into the fascinating world of orange oil together and answer these and other open questions.

How is orange oil made?

Orange oil is a real aroma miracle andis obtained from the peel of orangesThe method that is most commonly used is cold pressing. This process is particularly gentle and ensures that the valuable ingredients and the intense aroma of the oranges are preserved in the oil. In the following instructions you will learn how the essential oil is extracted.

Step 1: Selection of fruits

First, select ripe, undamaged citrus fruits. The quality of the citrus fruits is crucial here, because only healthy, ripe oranges produce high-quality oil.

Step 2: Wash & Dry

The oranges are washed thoroughly to remove dirt and any pesticide residues and then dried.

Step 3: Peel or zest

The outer, colored peel of the orange, the so-called zest, is grated or peeled. This is where the oil glands that contain the essential oil are located. It is important to only use the colored part of the peel and avoid the white, bitter inner flesh.

Step 4: cold pressing

The extracted shells are then subjected to a mechanical pressing process (cold pressing process). This process presses the essential oil out of the shells.

Step 5: Separation of amniotic fluid and oil

The resulting mixture of oil and fruit water is then separated. The oil rises to the surface due to its lightness, from where it is skimmed off or extracted by centrifugation.

Step 6: Filtration and cleaning

The oil is then filtered to remove impurities and suspended matter. In some cases, it is further purified to produce a pure, high-quality final product.

The orange oil obtained in this way is rich in so-called limonene, a hydrocarbon that is responsible for the characteristic, fresh and citrus-like scent and gives food and drinks a special note.
